Coronado sent back to the Island
By
Zack Pavel
The Parker Lancers vs. the Coronado Islanders has always been a big game for our school. The score for this match up in the last three years has been a combined score of 87 points for the Islanders and just 7 points for the Lancers. However, this year was going to be different than previous years. We knew we had a good chance of winning, but it was not going to be easy. This was one of the best battles so far this season.

On the first drive, the Islanders were steadily driving down the field, but our Lancer defense stopped their drive just before entering the red zone. Now it was time for the Lancer offense to shine. On the third play of the drive, Zack Pavel broke up the sideline for a 67 yard touchdown run. Following the touchdown, Matt Anderson ran it in to tack on two more points.

After kicking off to the Islanders, the Lancer defense had difficulties holding them on third down. During the second Islander drive, Parker caused a fumble and it was back to offense. Parker then marched down the field and scored with a 3 yard pass from Johnny Harari to Preston Cavignac, to put the score at 15-0.

With about two minutes left in the first half, The Islanders drove the ball all the way down to the one yard line. The Lancers refused to let them score and shut the Islanders down four plays in a row. On 4th down, Tyler Mabry came crashing down on the quarterback and caused a key fumble which was recovered to send the Parker offense in the opposite direction.

In the 3rd quarter, Pavel ran another 27 yards into the end zone while hurdling over the Coronado defender to push the score to 22 - 0 in favor of the Lancers.
The Islanders finally put 6 points on the scoreboard in the 3rd quarter. After receiving the ball, the Lancers fumbled, but luckily got the ball back two plays later. When Parker got the ball back, they could not finish their drive and opted to kick and score with a 38 yard field goal by Ian Yoder.

On the 2nd play of the ensuing Islander drive, a pass was intercepted by linebacker Larry Ayers. After a few penalties and incomplete passes by the Lancers, Coronado took the ball down the field and scored once again to put the score at 25-12. The Lancers walked off the field with a well deserved victory over the Islanders. The Lancers remain undefeated this season.
